Did you know that breastfeeding in public wasn’t legal in all 50 states until 2018? I’ve been stunned at the response to the breastfeeding pictures I posted this year. “You will have the breastfeeding relationship with your daughter that you want!” my lactation consultant assured me when Alex was 4 days old. But it was very scary at first. * Fast forward 17 months to #burningman2019 . @ebslavin snapped this pic of us, #breastfeeding the way we want to. I posted it and was shocked at the positive response (and press 😳). * Today, a few papers in the UK ran an article about me and my #breastfeedinginpublic . It’s a bit of a shock to have my images out there, but if it helps to #normalizebreastfeeding , then great! * My hope is that health care plans will cover a #lactationconsultant for new moms. #breastfeeding is unquestionably the ideal food for little humans, but it can be such a struggle to get it right. Obviously everything worked out fine for me… because I could afford to have an LC come to my house and help me and my baby! So many women don’t have that support, or the time, and they give up. It’s devastating, heartbreaking. Society would be in a much better spot if moms and babies were given the support, love and time they deserve to get the best start possible. That includes enough time off work to spend with your new baby, without fear of retribution! * Not every Mama wants to breastfeed or is able to, and I honor that. 🙌🏽 I’d just like us to all have the support we deserve. * Fun fact: that’s my dad in the tutu in the background.
